Gimme Fiber Day – November 4

Did you know, that each Year November 4 people around world are celebrating Gimme Fiber day? What so special about this day? 4 November is the birth date of Nobel Prize winner Sir Charles Kuen Kao, the man who changed the way the world communicates and was awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physics for “ground-breaking achievements concerning the transmission of light in fibres for optical communication”.

On 1960s Sir Charles Kuen Kao and his co-workers did their pioneering work in the realisation of fiber optics as a telecommunications medium, by demonstrating that the high-loss of existing fibre optics arose from impurities in the glass, rather than from an underlying problem with the technology itself. This was start of optical communications era and revolution in telecom industry.

Now FTTH Council Global Alliance want to rise initiative to celebrate fact, that the only future-proof broadband access solution is optical fiber and showcase how fiber has positively impacted communities across the world.

We at EDGE Technologies think that this is great opportunity for stakeholders of optical communications market – such as operators, system vendors, integrators to make this day special and appreciate possibilities of today’s modern communications. How exactly? Each can do different – and, if want to feel global shoulder of industry, register Your activities here –
